As an alternative to a microwave, I purchased this oven from Cuisinart (TOB-195). It’s low profile fits nicely on my counter. In fact, I have put it in the corner where my countertops meet and it recesses deeply enough that I still have plenty of space in front of it to work.
This little over does a bit of everything and gets used in our house every day, sometimes several times a day. From heating up leftovers, to toasting our bread, to cooking some of our meals, I have found this to be one of the most indispensable items in my kitchen.
When my niece was getting married, I knew immediately what item I was giving them for a wedding gift! If you time it just right, there is usually a good deal on these on Black Friday.
Recently, after years of constant service, I noticed my oven was getting a bit dingy looking. I though I might need to replace it, though it still functioned perfectly. I pulled out the manual and read about deep cleaning. The bottom catch tray slides right out of the back of the oven. After soaking it in the sink, it looked as good as new. I did the same with the rack and a few other bits; cleaned off the glass door and inside walls. Looks as good as new! If you do have a crumb tray that is really bad, you can purchase a replacement with no problems.
I love that the rack is adjustable to different heights. I normally keep it in the middle, but sometimes I have something tall to put in there, so I lower the rack. Love it!
Because it is a convection oven, reheating foods is super fast. Okay, it is not as fast as a microwave oven, but at least your food is not getting radiated. I use the extra two minutes for reheating to get my drink ready and the fork out.
